Marietta Police looking for would-be kidnapper

MARIETTA, GA (WXIA) – A Cobb County teen is describing the scary moment when a man tried to abduct her as she was walking home with her dog.

Police have stepped up patrols in the Marietta neighborhood to find the suspect. The incident has the area near Darnell and Barber roads on high alert.

"I was pretty frightened," said Sarah McKelvie, 15.

Sarah says she won't take the walk without her dog Sassy again. Not after what happened Thursday morning as she came back from taking her younger sisters a few blocks to school.

"There was a truck pulled up next to a house, and at first, I thought he was picking up someone, but I guess that wasn't the case, and so I continued walking," she said. "Whenever he tried to open the door, he tried to grab me, and that's when the dog went crazy."

Sassy bit the would-be abductor on the ankle. He let go of Sarah, allowing her to get away as he sped off – but she saw enough to provide information to Cobb County police, allowing them to construct a police sketch of the suspect.

"I'm very glad and thankful that she's still here today, because I don't know what could have happened to her," said Sarah's mother, Jennifer Jones.

At Fair Oaks Elementary School on Friday morning, there was an added police presence as children came to school. Authorities said they are looking for a white, newer model truck with scratches on its right side and rear – that Sarah described.

"I'm very thankful that she had our dog with her," said Jennifer. "Sassy is a rat terrier-pointer mix. She's 4 years old – a big baby of the family, but very protective of our girls, apparently."

Jennifer says she hopes telling their story --

"…Everybody else around could know to be on the lookout," she said. "Be on the lookout for your kids. You never know what's going to happen."
