Happy Mother's Day! Mom wins $206K lottery prize

MARIETTA, Ga. -- It was an extra-special Mother's Day this year for one Marietta woman.

Blakely Wolf won $206,502 from the Georgia Lottery's May 13 Fantasy 5 drawing.

"My husband called me into the living room this morning and told me. We were flabbergasted," Wolf, 49, said.

Wolf claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in downtown Atlanta. The lucky winner, who is the mother of a 9-year-old boy, said she plans to take a vacation and pay off some bills with her prize.

"I just never thought it would be possible," she said. "It's cool."

Winning numbers from the May 13 Fantasy 5 drawing were 3-23-26-29-38. Wolf purchased her ticket at the Kroger on Shallowford Road in Marietta.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Six Flags has teamed up with Kroger to sell discounted tickets to the two parks in Georgia.

Kroger customers can now purchase one-day admission tickets to both Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water at participating supermarkets in Georgia, eastern Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina.

"We are excited to welcome Kroger as a valued partner," Melinda Ashcraft, president of Six Flags Atlanta Properties, said in a statement. "Kroger shoppers, our guests and their families now have more opportunities to save on an entire day of thrills, fun and excitement at our parks."

Tickets from Kroger cost $39.99 plus tax for Six Flags Over Georgia and $31.99 plus tax for Six Flags White Water.

Pike Nurseries, Concentrics Restaurants host garden-to-table event

ATLANTA -- If you're planning to plant a summer garden, Pike Nurseries is hosting the perfect event to learn all about growing fresh vegetables and herbs.

The Georgia-based chain of nurseries has teamed up with Concentrics Restaurants for a Garden-to-Table Chef Event. Expert gardeners and at-home chefs will teach Pike customers how to use their home-grown crops in custom recipes. There will also be cooking demonstrations.

The garden-to-table event is free to attend. Seminars and demonstrations will be held at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 at all 14 metro Atlanta Pike locations.

SMYRNA, Ga. -- A Smyrna resident is revved up over her Georgia Lottery win.

Sandra Carpenter won the top prize playing the instant game Jeep Outdoor Adventure. Lottery representatives presented her with the keys to a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, taxes paid, Thursday at Ed Voyles Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Marietta.

"I'm very excited," Carpenter, 48, said. "I'm just happy I'll be driving a new car."

Carpenter purchased her winning ticket at the Chevron Food Mart on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. She scratched it in the store.

"I was shaking and crying. I was about to pass out," she said.

In addition to the Jeep, Carpenter also took home $25,000 to customize it.

ATLANTA -- Ted's Montana Grill has been named the Best Gluten-Free Restaurant Chain in the 2012 About.com Gluten-Free Readers' Choice Awards.

The restaurant chain, which was founded by Atlanta media mogul Ted Turner, began offering a gluten-free menu in 2005.

"Although we're known for our bison specialties, we try to feature options for many types of dietary needs," Chris Raucci, corporate chef for Ted's Montana Grill, said in a statement. "We're proud to be recognized for our gluten-free choices and plan to continue enhancing our gluten-free menu to offer new products."

Woman wins $250K in record lottery drawing

ATLANTA -- An Atlanta woman has come forward as a $250,000 winner from the record-breaking $656 million Mega Millions drawing.

Tarenthia Geer matched the first five numbers in the Mar. 30 drawing. She is one of six Georgia Lottery players to each win a quarter-million dollars.

Other $250,000 winners bought their tickets in Athens, Ellabell, Marietta, Sandersville and Waco.

Geer bought her lucky ticket at the Kroger on Headland Drive in southwest Atlanta. She claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in downtown Atlanta.

Winning numbers from the historic drawing were 2-4-23-38-46 and the Mega Ball was 23. The winning tickets were sold in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.
