Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl takes Cobb County schools | Schools

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- The sixth annual Cobb County School District Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is set to take place for students on Saturday, January 19 at McEachern High School.
According to Barbara Powell-Schager, Library Media Specialist at Big Shanty Intermediate School, the reading challenge is an academic competition where students use a buzzer like that in a game show to answer questions about books. Teams from 40 elementary, middle and high school in Cobb County will compete.
Following the contest, a parade of schools will march, including the two winning teams from each entry level. Those top two will also advance to the next level of competition, on their way to the March state final.
High schools participating are Hillgrove, Kennesaw, McEachern, North Cobb, Osborne, Sprayberry and Walton.
In the middle school level are Campbell, Cooper, Dodgen, East Cobb, Hightower, Lost Mountain, Lovinggood, Mabry, McCleskey, McClure, Smitha and Tapp.
Among high schools in the reading bowl are Big Shanty. Birney, Brown, Brumby, Clarkdale, Davis, East Valley, Ford, Hayes, Hendricks, Intermediate Smyrna Academy, Keheley, Kemp, Kincaid, LeBelle, Lewis, Norton Park, Shallowford Falls, Still, Teasley and Tritt.
