Cajun Fried Turkey Recipe for the Holidays: Compliments Copeland's of New Orleans

Cajun Fried Turkey Recipe for the Holidays: Compliments Copeland's of New Orleans

Frying whole turkeys is sort of the Southern version of tailgating before a football game. It is a very social event, like boiling crawfish or grilling out with friends and family. The difference is that you are dealing with 350 degree oil and a large water based bird that can cause the oil to overflow or bubble up if the bird is not thawed and drained properly.

Bill Goudey, CEO of Copeland’s of New Orleans, Atlanta Franchise, grew up in New Orleans and came to Atlanta in 1997 when he opened his restaurants.  In his hometown, Cajun fried turkey, rather than baked turkey, is served at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He says that this juicy turkey with outside crispiness originated in the bayous of Louisiana and Texas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Atlanta Restaurants Provide Traditional Thanksgiving Fare and Black Friday Escape

Atlanta Restaurants Provide Traditional Thanksgiving Fare and Black Friday Escape

With Thanksgiving less than a month away, there are two important choices to be made. Atlantans must decide whether to cook or to make reservations, and whether to shop Black Friday or to leave the bargain hunting to others. Whichever decision wins out, the city’s dining scene has something for everyone.

Atkins Park Tavern in Virginia-Highland and Atkins Park Tavern in Smyrna are offering guests Thanksgiving menus that will certainly leave them giving thanks for the chef. At both restaurants, the meal is $20 for adults, $15 for young adults and $8 for children 10 and under (tax and gratuity not included). Patrons can start celebrating the holiday at 5 p.m.

ATLANTA -- It's getting cold outside, but it'll be warm in Willy's Mexicana Grill restaurants all winter, now that the famous Chicken Tortilla Soup is back on the menu.

The soup is made from scratch daily and features corn, garlic, jalapeños, onions, tomato purée, chicken broth, spices and white corn tortillas; the tortillas make the soup thick and creamy, meaning that there is no need to add cream to it.
