GBI begins probe into city council altercation

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman said the agency has launched an investigation to look into reports of an altercation between two members of the Marietta City Council.

Marietta Police Chief Dan Flynn asked Carter Brank, special agent in charge of the GBI's Atlanta Regional Office, to request the investigation.

Flynn said the probe involves council members Annette Paige Lewis and Anthony Coleman.

Coleman reportedly denies touching or cursing at Lewis, and Lewis said she wouldn't discuss the matter while it's under investigation.

No charges have been filed against either council member.

Councilman Johnny Sinclair said he's canceling Thursday's meeting of the city's redistricting committee, which he chairs. Coleman and Lewis are the only other voting members of the committee.
