MARIETTA: Dog dies after helping owner escape fire
News

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Marietta man is alive Tuesday morning thanks to his pet dog, who alerted him that their house was on fire.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. at 607 Joel Drive near New Chastain Road, according to Marietta Fire officials.

The dog, a 3-year-old boxer named Duncan, barked until he woke his owner, Scott Dunn, and allowed him to escape the blaze. However, when Dunn tried to get his dog to follow him outside, Duncan refused to leave the house.

Fire officials found Duncan's body inside the house and buried it in the yard.

Dunn was not injured, but fire officials said his house was destroyed.
