KENNESAW, Ga. -- A memorial service is planned for Saturday for the 20-year-old Kennesaw State University student who died after eating on campus last week.
Tyler Cody Davis died on Aug. 18 after eating at the school's lone dining hall, The Commons. Campus officials said Davis returned there seeking emergency help shortly before 5 p.m.
According to KSU Vice President for Student Success Jerome Ratchford, Cobb County firefighters were called to "respond to a possible allergic reaction." Davis was later pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
The GBI is investigating because the death occurred on state property. GBI spokesman John Bankhead said the agency conducted an autopsy last Friday, but the results have not yet been released.
Davis was in his third year of study at KSU, where he was majoring in exercise and health science. He was a 2009 graduate of Sprayberry High School in Marietta.
"We extend our sincere condolences to Tyler's family and friends during this difficult time," KSU's Ratchford said in a statement, adding that grief counselors are available on campus.
Davis' memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta.
