Suspect in custody after GSP trooper injured making traffic stop

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Georgia State Patrol Trooper was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being injured while making a traffic stop.

The vehicle left the scene, and was later found abandoned. The suspect was later apprehended after a brief manhunt. He was identified as 36-year-old Alvaro Jimenez-Santana, of Conyers, according to Chapeau.

Chapeau said that a half-kilo of heroin was found along the suspect's escape path. 

The trooper was taken to a local hospital in serious condition with a head injury, Chapeau said. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
