1 hurt in east Cobb crash Tuesday evening

MARIETTA, Ga. (WXIA) – A crash involving two vehicles shut down part of an east Cobb County road for a few hours Tuesday evening, and sent one person to the hospital.

It happened on Piedmont Road just south of Sandy Plains Road when a tractor-trailer carrying sod attempted to make a U-turn on Piedmont Road was struck from behind by a blue Honda Civic. Police said the Honda may have been traveling at a high rate of speed when it clipped the truck. Police said the Honda went down an embankment and landed in the front yard of a home, within feet of the front of the house itself.

The Honda did not cause any damage to the home itself, but the driver of the Civic was transported to a local hospital with some very serious injuries.

Traffic on Piedmont Road was blocked for several hours while police investigated the incident. No other injuries were reported.
