MARIETTA, Ga. -- The 57-year-old owner of a Marietta pawn shop is recovering from a brutal attack and multiple stab wounds.  His attacker is still at large.

When the owner arrived to open the Hock Shop on Cobb Parkway on Saturday morning he told police there was a young man waiting outside the store.

The owner always carries a gun, but police say in this case he didn't stand a chance.

"The moment he opened the door it was an ambush.  The suspect attacked the victim from behind and immediately started stabbing him," said Officer David Baldwin.

The suspect and the owner fought for several minutes then the would-be robber ran off without taking anything.

"We still think robbery was the motive, but he got spooked when the victim fought back as hard as he did,"  said Baldwin.

Despite several life-threatening stab wounds the owner managed to make it to the phone and dial 911.  Police say they were on scene within a minute.

The suspect got away but not before dropping a wig he was wearing and a distinctive wool hat.  Police are hoping someone recognized those items and calls Crime Stoppers at 770-794-6990.
