ATLANTA -- Fewer voters cast early ballots for Georgia's upcoming presidential primary than in 2008.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp's office said 172,135 people had voted in the presidential primary by Friday. That includes 145,826 people who voted at polling stations and another 26,309 who mailed in absentee ballots.
Early voting sites have now closed, although residents can continue to mail in absentee ballots until the close of polls on Tuesday.

Early voting turnout is down about 31 percent from 2008. Those early ballots will not be counted until Tuesday, making it impossible to say which Republican presidential candidate has a lead among early voters.
