Cobb County almost spared from storms | News

MARIETTA, Ga. (WXIA) -- Hearing that most of Cobb was spared from Friday night's storms isn't much comfort when you have an oak tree in your living room. The Lieu family returned from work to find their house split in half.

"It's one of the most devastating feelings in the world," said Yeyo Lieu, "Especially when you plan to come home from work and relax, and then you see this."

Her home was near the area off Roswell Road where most of the county's storm damage was centered. East Cobb Park lost about 30 trees, and crews were working overtime Saturday morning to feed them to a chipper.

"We'll be here until we get the job done," said parks director Benjie Brumbloe. "We've had some kids coming in once the sun's come out that were climbing on the trees, they're a lot more attractive than playground equipment."

Roswell Road was closed for most of the day Saturday, as crews worked to fix several power lines that were hit by falling trees.
