KENNESAW, Ga - Cobb Police have identified the suspect accused of stabbing a transit bus driver, while the director of Cobb's bus service says the victim himself may be in some hot water.
21-year-old Taniesha Nicole Twyne is facing several charges including aggravated assault after an incident on board a Cobb Transit bus Monday afternoon. Cobb police say Twyne pulled a knife while on the bus, then stabbed the driver with his own pen.
According to officers, Twyne was on a bus near Towne Center Mall when she got into an argument. Police say Twyne borrowed a cell phone from another passenger but refused to return it.
Cobb police say when bus driver Damian Haney tried to stop the fight, Twyne displayed a knife. During a struggle the knife fell to the floor. Police say Twyne grabbed a pen from Haney's shirt pocket and stabbed him repeatedly in the face.
Twyne was treated for minor injuries she suffered during the altercation and taken to the Cobb County jail, where she's being held without bond.
Cobb Transit Director Rebecca Gutowski says Haney didn't follow standard operating procedure when he failed to radio dispatch about the fight so they could notify police.
"He got involved in a confrontation and it escalated," said Gutowski.
She says Haney is under routine suspension with pay while the matter is investigated.
Efforts to reach Haney were unsuccessful.
