Newt Gingrich campaigning in Georgia Saturday | News

ATLANTA--Forsyth and Gwinnett counties will welcome former congressman Newt Gingrich Saturday as he does some early stumping to gain votes.

Today, Herman Cain will appear with Gingrich while he attends two precinct meetings, one this morning in Cumming, then another around noon in Gwinnett County...

They will finish the day with a big rally in Cobb County this afternoon.

Gingrich himself has said that a strong showing in Georgia on Super Tuesday is crucial for his campaign.

On Friday, Gingrich spoke about his chances here in his former home state. " I would hope to win here." he said. "I think, given both the years I represented this state, and the years I spent growing the Republican party here, I have a reasonably good likelihood of winning here."

Gingrich's wife, Calista, will be addressing a group of Atlanta Young Republicans at Peachtree Presbyterian Church later Saturday afternoon.

He's been slipping in the national polls...but hopes to take advantage of his deep political roots here.
