GWINNETT CO | Grayson Rams aim for first state title

GWINNETT CO | Grayson Rams aim for first state title

LOGANVILLE, Ga. -- Competing at the 5A level in football in Gwinnett County is a little like being in the NFC South.  There's always someone waiting who can ruin your day.

But the Grayson Rams feel like their day has come. It's not that they don't respect their state final opponent.  Walton carries the same 14-0 record into the Georgia Dome this Saturday as Grayson. But four other Gwinnett County schools have claimed titles over the years, and Grayson feels it's their time.

"We owe this to coach (Mickey) Conn" said junior defensive star Robert Nkemdiche. Conn has carried this program a long time. In fact he is the only coach the program has ever had, there from the beginning in 2000.

"We played a junior varsity schedule for a couple years, then went in at the AAA level," Conn said.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- For the fourth year in a row, the DECA club at Marietta's Lassiter High School will hold a Friday night PINK OUT to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

This year's PINK OUT will be held in honor of Pam Hutchinson Butler, a breast cancer patient and Lassiter alumna.

DECA members hope to collect $3,500 this year.

The Lassiter-Cherokee game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Frank Fillman Stadium. All attendees are asked to wear pink and donate to show their support for eliminating breast cancer.
