Cobb Alcohol Taskforce unveils new website

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce has overhauled its website, making it more accessible for parents and residents.

The new CobbAT site features tips, resources, campaigns and research on underage binge drinking prevention.

It is all part of the organization's stated goal of expanding its community outreach in 2013.

Kennestone plans $23M outpatient surgery center in Woodstock

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- WellStar Kennestone Hospital has filed a letter of intent with the Georgia Department of Community Health for a proposed $23 million outpatient surgery center off Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock.

Kennestone must submit an application for a certificate of need on Nov. 26.

Northside Hospital-Cherokee in October broke ground on a 100,817-square-foot, four-story medical office building on Towne Lake Parkway.

Card soon to help residents pay less for prescriptions

COBB COUNTY -- A press conference between the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and representatives of the Coast2Coast Rx Card will launch a new drug discount program on Tuesday afternoon at the Commission Chambers in Marietta.

All cardholders, according to the Cobb County Government, regardless of age, income or health condition can save on prescription medications. While it is not a form of insurance coverage, the program is free, applicable to families, and void of enrollment fees, memberships or expiration dates. Cobb will be Georgia's 22nd county to participate in Coast2Coast. Participants can use the card for prescriptions that are not covered by various insurance plans, or to tackle high deductibles.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- An East Cobb dentist will open his doors to the community for a day of free dental care this weekend.

Marietta Family Dental Care will offer the free services from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Eighteen dentists and more than 70 hygienists and other dental professionals will be on hand to help Dr. Michael Mansouri see as many patients as possible. Attendees will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis, and can choose to have a cleaning, filling or extraction.

This is the second time Mansouri will host a free dental care day. Hundreds of people attended last year's event.

Atlanta-area women of all ages are invited to Paint the Mall Pink at Mall of Georgia and Town Center at Cobb, October 4-7. A cost-free, full weekend of activities focusing on the importance of women’s health will feature health-focused activities, keynote addresses from local medical professionals, musical performances, giveaways and more!

The festivities kick off with Girl’s Night Out on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Mall of Georgia and 5:30 p.m. at Town Center at Cobb. The first 300 attendees to arrive at each mall will receive event swag bags filled with samples from stores and themed goodies. Girl’s Night Out is sponsored by Gwinnett Medical Center, Gwinnett Magazine, FundRacers at Mall of Georgia and by WellStar, Little Black Dress | Little Red Wagon Magazine and Run For It! Productions at Town Center at Cobb.

Local Olympic champ partners with WellStar

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Christian Taylor is now part of the WellStar Health System family.

The 22-year-old Fayetteville native won the gold medal for the triple jump at the 2012 London Olympics. Now, he plans to travel throughout the WellStar system to visit with patients and promote a healthy lifestyle.
