Chattahoochee Tech job fair open to the public

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Chattahoochee Technical College will hold a large job fair for students and the community later this month.

The event will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school's North Metro Campus in Acworth.

More than 60 employers are scheduled to attend, according to CTC Career Services Coordinator Lucylle Shelton. Participating companies include Aaron's, Inc.; American Family Insurance; CarMax; CNN; Kaiser Permanente; and MARTA.

"Employers are looking for applicants with up-to-date skills who can talk about their skills and are confident about what they have to offer," said CTC Career Services Specialist Annette Davis. "There is a big demand for applicants with hands-on experience who are educated in their field. Those are the types of students we have at Chattahoochee Technical College."

Job fair attendees are asked to dress professionally and bring plenty of copies of their résumés.

High school coaches to participate in rib-eating contest

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Texas Roadhouse is kicking off a 10-day series of special events with a rib-eating contest for local high school coaches.

On Monday, Oct. 7, coaches from Cherokee, Harrison, Kell, Kennesaw Mountain, North Cobb, Pope and Sprayberry high schools will compete to see who can eat the most ribs.

The winning coach will receive 10 percent of the evening's proceeds for his football team.

The Battle of the Coaches contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will be preceded by an applesauce-eating contest for children at 6:30 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Center for Children & Young Adults (CCYA) proudly presents the Berenstain Bears in Family Matters the Musical!

This show is in town for one day only -- Saturday, Oct. 5. There will be three performances: 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Earl Smith Strand Theater on the Marietta Square. All proceeds benefit CCYA.

Adapted from the classic children's book series by Stan and Jan Berenstain, this special family-friendly exclusive show event brings everyone's favorite bear family to life in an exciting theatrical experience that kids as well as their parents will treasure for many years to come. As always, Bear Country is not without its complications: Brother Bear's grades are slipping, Sister Bear still has a few things to learn about making new friends, and Papa Bear just can't stop eating junk food. Thankfully, we can always depend on Mama Bear and her loving patience to help set things right.

(WXIA) -- Now that fall is almost here, it's time to start thinking about seasonal gardening.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, all Pike Nurseries locations will hold a free Gardenfest event to prepare customers for the change in seasons.

Gardenfest festivities will include discounts on merchandise throughout the store, as well as free appetizers and wine samplings. Five percent of the event's proceeds will be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Run a 5K at Kennesaw Mountain

Run a 5K at Kennesaw Mountain

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Runners can challenge themselves with a 5K run up Kennesaw Mountain next month.

The second annual Assault on Kennesaw Mountain will be held Saturday, Oct. 12.

Runners will begin assembling at Marietta's Grace Community Church at 6 a.m. The race will be off and running at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Its course begins at the intersection of Kennesaw Avenue and Tower Road, follows Kennesaw Avenue's old running path and eventually winds to the national park, finishing in the parking lot atop the mountain.

Registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Proceeds from the race benefit the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation.

Registration open for Superheroes vs. Villains 5K

MARIETTA, Ga. -- It's time to fight crime -- or maybe stir up some trouble -- in west Cobb.

The Superheroes vs. Villains 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 19. It will feature some stellar prizes, including medals, T-shirts and goody bags for all finishers. The male and female winners will each receive trips to Universal Studios in Orlando; the top male and female finishers over age 40 will each get a Kindle; and the male and female hero and villain winners will each receive courtside tickets to an Atlanta Hawks game.

Best of all -- the superhero and villain with the best costume will each win a 2014 season pass to Six Flags Over Georgia. Runners-up will receive single-day passes.

The race will start at 8 a.m. at Required Fitness near the intersection of Mary Eliza Trace and Due West Road.
