Pickpocketing suspect arrested

UPDATE: Investigators have arrested a Marietta man in connection with several recent cases of wallet theft at Cobb County grocery stores.

Ricky Waller, 31, has been charged with theft by taking and credit card fraud. He is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

COBB CO., Ga. -- Cobb police are investigating a number of wallet thefts that have occurred in grocery stores throughout the county.

Investigators say the perpetrator takes wallets out of women's purses while they shop for groceries. He then uses the credit cards in the wallets to buy "high-end electronics" at other Cobb stores.

A surveillance camera at one store captured images of the suspect. Police say he is a black man, about 5'11" to 6'2" and 180 to 210 pounds.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Authorities say the manager of a Marietta McDonald's is accused of punching a mother after she brought her autistic children and a service dog inside the restaurant.

Cobb County officials issued a warrant charging Tiffany Denise Allen with simple battery and disorderly conduct.

The warrant states that Jennifer Schwenker entered the McDonald's with her twins and service dog last week, and that Allen, who was off-duty at the time, became irate the dog was inside.

Police said Allen followed the mother around the restaurant, then punched her in the face in the parking lot.

McDonald's franchisees J.M. and Jan Owens released a statement on Friday:

Georgia delays inmate's execution for 1 day

JACKSON, Ga. -- Georgia prison officials have delayed the execution of a death row inmate convicted of killing his parents and sister in their Cobb County home in 1993.

Attorney General Sam Olens would not say why Andrew Grant DeYoung's lethal injection was rescheduled from Wednesday.

His execution at 7 p.m Thursday will be the first one videotaped in nearly two decades. The last known recording of an execution was in 1992, when California's use of lethal gas was challenged.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Marietta man was killed Wednesday after running from police and barricading himself in an apartment.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Eric Dewayne Moon Jr., was shot to death by Cobb County officers when he refused to drop his weapon and leave the closet in which he was hiding, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce with the Cobb County Police Department.

Preliminary information from police investigators said that two uniformed officers tried to pull over Moon's Chevrolet Lumina on Terrell Mill Road just before 4 p.m.

Instead of stopping, Moon reportedly drove into the nearby Lincoln Hills apartment complex on Windcliff Drive, where he lost control of his car and hit a tree.

The car then hit a stop sign and overturned before landing upright on its wheels.

Pierce said Moon got out of the car and ran into an apartment.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cobb County investigators are looking for suspects in a recent suspicious death.

On Saturday, July 2, police were dispatched to the area of Circle 75 and Windy Hill Road in Marietta, where the body of a young man was found in some woods near the road.

The victim was discovered by a woman walking in the area.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Derrick George Gray Jr. of Smyrna. They have reason to believe that the person or people responsible for his death may drive a silver mid-size sedan with possible damage.

Police investigate weekend homicide

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Marietta Police Department is investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting death at the Westbury Park apartment complex on Franklin Road.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired. They found the body of 28-year-old Reginald Gibson of Marietta inside Building C at the complex.

There are currently no suspects.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Officers in Cherokee County have arrested a man for possession of child pornography and a woman for stealing a wallet during a church service.

On Friday, June 17, a French national was returned to Woodstock after more than a year of hearings in Canada, where authorities say he was trying to flee to his homeland.

Patrick Molesti, 58, was living in Woodstock in March 2010 when officers say he attempted to purchase a five-year-old child online.

He was arrested on a bus in Thunder Bay, Canada by U.S. Marshals and Canadian authorities.

"We are pleased that Molesti has been extradited back to Cherokee County to stand trial for these charges. We appreciate the assistance of the Canadian authorities in capturing Molesti and the U.S.
