ROSWELL, Ga. -- Roswell police have arrested three Metro Atlanta men for trying to steal a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a local car dealership.

A employee of Palmer Dodge on Alpharetta Highway told police that he was approached by a young black man on Wednesday. The man offered the employee $2,000 to leave a key in the car so it could be stolen.

The suspect told the employee that he planned to send the Jeep to New York and then out of the country, according to investigators.

Roswell police set up a sting operation in the parking lot. Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the suspect returned to Palmer Dodge with two accomplices.

When the suspect got into the $47,000 Jeep and started it, police moved in and arrested him. He was identified as 36-year-old Kevin Johnson of Dallas.

Johnson's accomplices -- Walter Ray Hamilton, 30, of Chamblee and Michael Robert Thimas, 25, of Marietta -- were also arrested.
