85-year-old woman killed in Marietta DUI crash

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cobb County Police are investigating an accident that killed an 85-year-old Marietta woman.

The wreck happened shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday on Terrell Mill Road just south of Waterfall Village Drive in Marietta.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the elderly woman, Kathryn LaPointe, was turning onto Terrell Mill Road out of a Walmart parking lot when her car was hit on the driver's side by a silver Hyundai.

LaPointe was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Hyundai driver, 45-year-old Cynthia Max, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. Pierce said police determined she'd been drinking.

Max was arrested for DUI and taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Jail records show her bond was set at $1,320.
