Marietta bicyclist killed in hit and run

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Marietta police are looking for the driver suspected of hitting and killing a bicyclist Sunday evening.

The accident happened at around 7:45 p.m. on Powder Springs Street at Natchez Trace SW in downtown Marietta.

Marietta police spokesman Michael Gardner said the victim, 55-year-old Lawrence Joseph Young, was hit by a black SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade, with dark tinted windows and black wheels.

Young was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Gardner said the suspect left the nearby NCG Cinemas just before the accident. Police believe the driver, who was caught on surveillance camera inside the theater, had taken two young children to see the movie The Croods.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Marietta Police Officer Scott Davis at 770-794-5364.
