Suspect's charges upgraded after Cobb County shooting victim dies

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A man charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery in a Cobb County shooting now faces a murder charge after the victim passed away.

The shooting happened May 21 at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Pat Mell Road.

Police said the victim, 35-year-old Trinity Hardnett, got into an argument with several people at the Favor Market at Favor and Pat Mell roads in Marietta.

Hardnett crossed the street to the Edinborough apartment complex, where he continued to fight with 22-year-old Laronte Jamal Nelms. At some point, Nelms pulled out a gun and shot Hardnett.

Hardnett was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Cobb County Police said investigators were notified this past Saturday that the victim had died of his injuries.

Nelms was arrested May 27 and is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
