Cobb County employee admits to stealing from drug court

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- A former Cobb County employee pleaded guilty Wednesday to six counts of theft by taking for stealing money from drug court.

Tomasita Reavis worked as a clerk in the county's drug testing lab, where in late 2012 she was caught on surveillance video taking money from the cash drawer and putting it in her purse.

Cobb County Deputy Chief ADA Jason Saliba said Reavis, 57, took "several hundred dollars from the cash box" in one instance, then returned for an additional $20 to pay for her lunch. He asked a Cobb County judge to sentence her to four years in prison.

Instead, Reavis received what the judge called "an extremely lenient" six months in jail and 10 years of probation. She must also pay $2,055 in restitution.

"This was a government employee taking public funds. We believed a prison sentence was appropriate," Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds said.
