Bert's Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designed to allow children with a chronic or terminal illness ages 5 to 12 years of age that prove financial need and live in The Bert Show’s Atlanta radio listening area (WWWQ-FM/99.7), to experience a magical 5 day adventure with their families at Walt Disney World®.

Now that summer is now in session and in addition to bringing warm weather, the new season has brought about a host of philanthropic events, all benefiting one of Atlanta’s favorite organizations: Bert’s Big Adventure. With different events throughout the summer, there’s sure to be something to fit your style and schedule.

The restaurant called Kenley’s Restaurant is a down-home dining staple amongst celebrities and “people of importance” in Atlanta but it caters to the Average Joe.

ATLANTA -- Parents and teachers know that having the right school supplies can mean the difference between a passing or a failing grade for students.

That's why Publix has teamed up with the United Way and several local partners to host the School Tools for Cool Kids program.

Residents can stop by their neighborhood Publix grocery stores from Monday, July 18 until Sunday, Aug. 14 to purchase and/or drop off school supplies in the School Tools bins.

"We encourage customers to donate school supplies to help . . . children begin the school year on a level playing field," said Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Publix.

America Is Your Park campaign urges families to get out, discover fun ways to get active in the park while helping their favorite park win big

 

ATLANTA, July 10, 2011 – If you’re reading this, you should get to your favorite park – STAT! Coca-Cola is calling all families to go out and play this summer as part of the second annual America Is Your Park campaign.

Onlooker captures funeral procession for fallen sheriff

ATLANTA – Spaulding County Sheriff Dee Stewart was buried on Thursday after a funeral service held at the Second Baptist Church in Griffin.

Stewart died from injuries he sustained after a collision with a pickup truck driven by his grandson. During his most recently campaign, Stewart said he would target illegal drugs and wanted the department to become more community-oriented.

This video, of his funeral procession, was shared by YouTube user hames74 and has become the fifth most shared video in the Atlanta area. The video was uploaded on Thursday and currently has about 900 views.

ATLANTA – Lady Luck has dropped the gavel on a retired court clerk. Patricia Cordell, 56, has won $50,000 playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Super Millions.

“Oh man, I was excited,” she exclaimed.

Hiram Food & Fuel, 4120 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram, sold the lucky ticket.

Cordell, a Dallas resident, retired from the Cobb County Clerk of Superior Court’s office as chief deputy clerk.

She describes winning the lottery prize as wonderful.

“I’m going to share it with my sister and nephew, pay a few things, and the rest is going in the bank for a rainy day,” she said.

Super Millions is a new instant game with top prizes of $1 million, $2 million, $3 million, $4 million and $5 million. Players can enter non-winning tickets in an extra chance drawing for a chance to win $1 million.
