WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Unmasked: The Phantom of the Flopera, an original musical parody produced by The Spirit of Broadway, was a smashing success.  The congregation at First Metropolitan Community Church of Atlanta hosted Unmasked on Saturday, June 9th to benefit the church’s Compassion Programs, including its Food Bank, Weekly Hot Meal for the Homeless and Needy, the Clothing Closet and other outreach initiatives.  The benefit, now in its third year, raised a record breaking $8000 which is more than a 30% increase over prior years.  Unmasked was so well-received that The Spirit of Broadway is currently in negotiations with two Atlanta area theatres to produce a finalized version of the show this fall or winter, including an original parody score.

Motown show to light up Strand Theatre stage

Motown show to light up Strand Theatre stage

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Mo' Motown, a show-stopping, finger-snapping, toe-tapping ode to true American music, will return to Marietta this July.

The show is a continuation to last year's sold-out run of A Salute to Motown, where audiences enjoyed some of the best music in history, from Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, the Temptations and more.

"We wanted to save what our audiences loved about last year's show while adding in classics and new cuts of music from Motown greats such as Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson," said Catherine Rhodes, assistant director of the Earl Smith Strand Theatre, where the show will play. "Anticipate seeing some familiar faces in this year's Mo' Motown show, as well as some exciting new talent."
