Josh Groban concert to be screened in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Josh Groban is giving a live preview concert of his new album in New York City, but local fans won't have to travel far to watch the performance.

Josh Groban Live: All That Echoes will be screened at several theaters across metro Atlanta.

The concert will be broadcast live on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Groban will perform some of the biggest hits from his 12-year career, as well as songs from his sixth studio album, All That Echoes, which hits shelves Feb. 5. He will also answer fans' questions submitted via Twitter and text message.

"To have the chance to perform songs new and old and interact with Q&A with fans across the country is truly awesome," Groban said in a statement. "Fathom (Events) gives me that reach using state-of-the-art visual and sound at your local movie theater to experience a concert experience unique to any other. What a great way to kick off the album release!"

'Beehive: The 60's Musical' coming to Marietta

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A high-energy musical that celebrates the 1960's will bounce its way to Marietta in February.

Beehive, which celebrates the coming-of-age of women's music, will play at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre from Feb. 15 to Mar. 3.

The production will be staged by Atlanta Lyric Theatre, metro Atlanta's only professional musical theater company. Created by Larry Gallagher, the show features such hit 60's songs as "My Boyfriend's Back," "One Fine Day," "Downtown," "Proud Mary" and "Respect."

Empty Bowl Brunch to benefit MUST Ministries

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Art Place in Marietta is bringing back its Empty Bowl Brunch for the 2012 holiday season.

This annual event raises money for deserving charities, including MUST Ministries and an organization for Vietnam veterans, as well as programs sponsored by the Mountain View Arts Alliance.

Last year's Empty Bowl Brunch brought in $2,600.

The "empty bowls" in question are dishes made by pottery teachers, staff and students at the Art Place. The bowls are donated to the brunch, where they can be filled with soup or chili.

ATLANTA -- Monday was a huge night for metro Atlanta theater, as the winners of the 2012 Suzi Bass Awards were announced at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in DeKalb County.

Some of the area's most talented actors, directors and techies walked away with Suzis, which are among the top honors for Atlanta theater productions.

The award for Outstanding Production of a Musical went to the Actor's Express staging of Spring Awakening, while Theatrical Outfit's Red won Outstanding Production of a Play.

ATLANTA -- The nominees for this year's Suzi Bass Awards were announced Monday.

The Suzi Awards are among the top honors for Atlanta theater productions. This year's Suzi Nomination Party was held at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, which scored 18 nominations.

Aurora's world premiere production of Clyde 'n Bonnie: A Folktale had 15 nominations -- the most of any play or musical. Second place went to Spring Awakening at Actor's Express with 10 nominations, while two shows tied for a third-place seven nominations -- Atlanta Lyric Theatre's Gypsy and Theatrical Outfit's Red.
