Local 6th Grader Named Macy's Spelling Bee Champion

Atlanta, GA--  Jules McNeice, a 6th grader at Dickerson Middle School in Cobb County,  spelled her way through 19 rounds of words to become the national champion of the Macy’s Spelling Bee, held at Macy’s at Herald Square in New York City on Sunday, September 26th.  The 10-year-old from Marietta spelled the word  “antennae” correctly to win the bee.

This fall, Macy’s held its fifth annual regional spelling bee competitions in 29 store locations across the country in partnership with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), Kaplan and Scholastic.  One winner from each of the 29 local events received an all expense paid trip for himself/herself and a guardian to New York to participate in the Final Spelling Bee at Macy’s Herald Square, and other great prizes.  Jules was the winner of the local Macy’s Spelling Bee, held at Macy’s at Town Center at Cobb on August 7th, 2010.

As the winner of the final competition, Jules received a $5,000 Kaplan Tutoring scholarship, a $500 gift card from Scholastic and an all-inclusive trip for a family of four to the Franklyn D. Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica courtesy of The Jamaica Tourist Board.
