More Dental Treatment OptionsA more extensive list of services means that patients have more options when they come to this practice. Following a thorough evaluation, Dr. DeShetler will sit down with patients and discuss their objectives and the associated challenges. “We always want our patients to know what their options are—short-term solutions as well as long-term solutions at various price points and requiring more or less time. We create an individualized treatment plan for them depending on their expectations and finances, and we are not promoting one plan over another since we are able to provide an array of options—everything from routine fillings and bonding to bone grafting and implants."
Technologically ProgressiveBesides staying on top of advanced techniques with continuing education, Dr. DeShetler also likes to stay on top of the latest technology. The dental profession is evolving, and so should your experience. New technology helps diagnose problems earlier, allowing prompter treatment of problems with less invasive techniques. “I am always looking for new ways to improve the dental experience for my patients—whether that means making them more comfortable or doing the job more efficiently. We use state-of-the-art equipment like an intraoral camera so that patients can see what we are seeing; Biolase laser; quieter, faster rotary endodontics and electric hand pieces that make procedures easier.”Patient Comfort a PriorityA recent advancement which is popular with patients, particularly patients who have anxiety about dental work, is a computerized device which delivers anesthesia without the dreaded syringe injection. Truly a remarkable device, the wand’s sensors are able to locate the teeth and jaws electrical nerve signal. “It is much less painful with more profound numbness, and it’s faster to wear off when we are finished. Our patients have been amazed at how great this is,” Dr. DeShetler explains. XM radio with wireless headsets is also available to make the dental experience more comfortable.Dr. DeShetler says that patient comfort is a priority for him. “I never want to hurt or scare anyone—I go out of my way to make sure they are comfortable and to talk them through every step if that helps put them at ease. I’ve found that the tell-show-do technique that we learned in middle school works well for patients that are uncomfortable at the dentist. I’ve had a lot of my patients tell me that they’ve never had a dentist as patient and personable as I am."
